BALTIMORE — The Kennedy Krieger Institute is getting a share of the National Football League’s research funds for concussion studies.
The Baltimore-based institution said Monday that its study will aim to find a way to reliably diagnose youth concussions and predict how individuals will recover.
The National Institutes of Health says the Kennedy Krieger study is one of eight projects it is funding with dollars donated by the NFL.
The league donated $30 million last year for research on injuries affecting athletes. Brain trauma is the main subject of the studies.
The Kennedy Krieger study is one of six pilot projects receiving a total of about $2 million over two years. The NIH says the projects may be expanded if early results are encouraging.
